How To Install LED Lights By Delta Source

[Music] mic with family handyman here and today I'm going to show you how to install LED light strips LED light strips are becoming cheaper easier to install more accessible and they give off great light and it seems to me there's some apprehension around the installation whether it's how the parts go together or what parts you might need and today I'm gonna clear some of those things up and show you just how simple it can be so here's what you're gonna need first the LED light strips themselves they come in a roll and you can buy them in many different configurations including color different sizes and the great part is you can cut them down to whatever length you need then you need solderless clamps for LED light strips the LED strip goes in this side and then the wire goes in that side all you have to do is push them in press them down and your connection is made then you need low voltage cable mine contains five wires one for a white blue green and red and then there's a power supply as well next we have the controller this is what lets you change from color to color and then color to white and vice versa then you need a power supply it takes 120 volt AC in your house down to 12 volt DC so you can power the lights then if you want you can get this channel which makes installing the lights really easy it also comes with this nice frosted lens and then the remote which lets you change colors dim the lights and choose.
which channel is on and off then the only tools you need are a wire stripper and a small flat-head screwdriver first cut your LED light strip to length make sure you're cutting along the line right through the context then push the LED strip into the short side of the solderless clamp and press it down and if you need to give it a little pinch with your wire strippers and make sure the side clips engage next get a length of wire and you're gonna want to peel the wires away you don't have to strip them because we're using solderless clamps then you're gonna put the wire into the wire side of the solderless clamp you need to make sure that the wire corresponds with the letter on the LED strip it may not be in the same order that's on the cable so you might have to do some rearranging now you can do the same thing with the other side of the wire peel these wires away you are gonna have to strip these down a little bit so that it makes the connection into the controller and that's what you're gonna do next then to get the wires into the controller flip it around loosen all of the set screws and then again match up the wire the color wire with the corresponding letter into the controller and tighten the connection so if you're plugging this into a 12 volt system you'd use these and put your positive and negative leads right there right from the fuse box from your car or your boat we're gonna put them into our house so we're gonna plug in a transformer and you got life LED light strips are really awesome and you can put them just about anywhere underneath the toe kicks in your kitchen under the cabinets and your boat or in your trailer anywhere you need to shed some light for more great tips tricks and projects like this visit us at Family Handyman com you
